Fury and Persistence
“Nothing can keep from success,” says Orison Swett Marden, “the man who has iron in his blood and is determined that he will succeed. When he is confronted by barriers, he leaps over them, tunnels through them, or makes a way around them. Obstacles only serve to stiffen his backbone, increase his determination, sharpen his wits and develop his innate resources.”
“Fuck ‘try’.” Says Tim Grover, “Trying is an open invitation to failure, another way of saying, “If I fail, it’s not my fault, I tried.”
“Austere perseverance,” says Goethe, “rarely fails its purpose, for its solid power grows irresistibly greater over time.”
If we believe in ourselves, our ideas, our goals and our abilities, nothing becomes impossible, and as a result of consequence, impossible becomes nothing. Failure itself becomes our tutor and instructor, and on many occasions, our motivator.
When we want it bad enough, the obstacles that come our way are minor inconveniences because nothing stops the determined individual, and like a ball pushing through a body of water, every molecule gives way to the force sooner or later.
It’s impossible to beat a person who never gives up, because “Nothing,’ says Calvin Coolidge, “takes the place of persistence. Talent will not, nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
The dogged determination of the Apostle Paul saw him through persecution and tribulation when he said; “This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind me, and looking to those things which are before, I press towards the mark and the prize of the high calling.”
Therefore, keep moving forward, because before you know it, you will be that much closer to the podium and look back and say, “look how far I've come. Just a little higher and I’ll get there.”
